Cheatline Outcomes

Home

A call through to the IFB Cheatline alleged that an individual had registered a dishonest claim for the loss of an engagement ring when in fact it was not lost at all. The IFB were able to successfully identify the insurer concerned as part of their enquiries they interviewed the subject who had admitted that the claim was invented. A saving of £2,200 was recorded and the policy was voided to the date of claim.

Motor

The IFB received information via the IFB Cheatline that an individual had registered a fraudulent motor insurance claim against his insurers stating that his vehicle had been stolen when they were in Europe. The caller advised that whilst the vehicle was in Europe it had been deliberately left there with the intention of defrauding the insurance company. Additional enquiries were subsequently undertaken by both the IFB and the insurance company concerned, the exact location of the vehicle was identified the vehicle was subsequently recovered and a salvage value was obtained for the vehicle at a figure of just under £16,000 - the policyholder was no longer on cover at the time the vehicle was recovered.

Life

Information was provided to the IFB following a call through to the Cheatline alleging that a family had registered a several hundred thousand pound life assurance claim for an individual who was still in fact very much alive and well. The information obtained only emphasised the ongoing concerns and following investigations a repudiation letter was issued stating that the Insurers were not satisfied that a death had occurred. A saving was duly recorded of £740,000 and police action is currently being considered.
