The IFB responds to Black Friday scam warnings

Young drivers are warned about bogus car insurance deals on social media this Black Friday and Cyber Monday

John Davies, Intelligence and Investigations Manager at the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB), said:

"If some deals look too good to be true this Black Friday or Cyber Monday, that may well be the case. Ghost Broking scams are on the rise, with fraudsters preying on bargain hunters with fake insurance offers that leave victims driving uninsured and out of pocket. Look out for tell-tale signs of bogus car insurance deals, which can include the policy being unrealistically cheap with an up-front quote, or the seller insisting on communicating only via private DMs on social media or WhatsApp. Always check that the provider is FCA-registered."
